My favorite list of free courses is Open Source Society University (OSSU) Here’s what steps to learn to get a full computer science undergraduate degree. And the link from where to learn it is given. The courses that are given links are mostly courses of MIT, Harvard teachers. So, if someone has 2-3 years to spare and wants to become a world class programmer, I would say go ahead and do all the free courses in this list. No one can stop you.

Go to the Learn Digital with Google website and you will find many free courses. Most of which courses are offered by Google engineers and some other universities, coursera is offering many courses. 100% free. Not only that. Most courses offer certificates.
